A Blog in Fifteen Minutes

Cause that's all I have.

It's officially fall now, and to celebrate, the Texas weather has gone all pear-shaped. Its cold and rainy and yesterday I had to dry my jeans twice (I love those jeans...) rather than change into dry clothes three times. Today, it's rainy a little bit, but it's cold. Now, I love a good cold front... but I appreciate it a lot more if it's when I expect to get it (ahem, not in September) and when I'm prepared with wool. Since it was so ridiculously hot during the summer, I've knitted all of a foot and a half of a sweater, a mitten, and a sock and a half. That is not prepared.

I've gotten my results back from my chemistry test last thursday: 85!

I had a Psychology test yesterday (which I feel went well)... and an assortment of tests coming up for all of my classes in the next few weeks. (English on Monday, Mythology on Wednesday, Politics on Friday... "Test season" has rolled right in with Fall. (I've noticed that Test Season usually last two weeks and only ever occurs once every two months or so.)

My APO schedule for this week looks pretty similar to last week's: Flag practice, a variety of meetings and family nights, and then the game on Saturday. Look for me if you're there!

Well, my fifteen minutes is up. I'm off into the cold weather to walk to my Politics class!

Texas vs. Tech

So there was a game tonight! And we won! (34-24) Here are a few highlights.

Today was the first time that I ran the flag out onto the field! It was brilliant. It was the most incredible feeling to be standing there holding onto the biggest Texas flag in the state and at the feet of 101,297 people. The. Best. Feeling. I hope Mom got some good pictures! (Hopefully there'll be a link to Mom's blog here in a day or two). (Here's the link!)

See? People! (I think this is the section that Mom and Mike were in. Tell me where you were, Mom! I know you said "I'm the one in orange", but...)

Record attendance, again!

After I got to my seat, I stood up for a few hours and shouted myself hoarse. The area I'm in is full of students... and we do a lot of yelling! We never sit down, either.

There was a lot of this:

And a lot of this (particularly in the 4th quarter, my goodness!):

And during half time, Texas Tech went onto the field and did their thing:

And then we did our thing: (Anyone see Nathan?)

And then we played a little more football... and then we won!

Oh... and Matthew McConaughey was in a box directly above me!

(Obviously, he supports the right team!)

Hey, Look!

Up there? You see it? It's a new banner! Yay! Since it is no longer summer, I figured I'd ditch the pool float and martini and hit the books...

A few thoughts after knit-night

I went to Knit-Night tonight where I listened to a lot of conversations. I didn't get to voice my opinion (mostly because they didn't give me a chance to, and I'm not a butt-my-way-into-things kind of girl anyway...) and so I thought I'd give my opinion on my blog. Because, well, that is what a blog is for, right?

I listened to two (nice) old ladies complain about their various aches, pains, and medications, and when they left I listened to mothers talk about why being a stay-at-home mom was so great, and why would they want to work and entrust their precious children with strangers/daycare/babysitters/etc? (There was a whole other conversation about homeschooling, which I won't get into.)

I know that my parents trusted the care of my brother and me to nannies my entire life because they worked, and they worked hard and I could never, ever resent them for that. I feel like I've grown up being given what I wanted or needed and I suffer no long term issues (and will need no therapy from) being left in the care of other women until when Mom and Dad got home from work every day. Sure I missed them a lot when they were away on business, but it made me cherish the time I was given with them. I loved the family dinners best.

I called Mom after knit night and thanked her for sending me to school and for entrusting other people to help raise me. I guess I feel like I'm a lot more knowledgeable of other cultures after knowing those women from around the world. I can't imagine how my life would be different if I hadn't had their influence.

I don't have kids, but I want them someday. I imagine that I'll want to spend as much time as I can with them, but I hope that I don't hesitate to let others into their lives, be it through schooling or in the home.

-----

I think APO is taking over my life. It's a good thing, though. There's so much going on every day...

Yesterday, there was the Sunday Meeting (which, if you want a Big Bucket of Crazy, is the place to be on Sundays),

Tomorrow there is a movie night and an IM football game,

Thursday I have a flag run practice,

Friday, volunteer work and a pledge retreat,

and Saturday is the football game with the flag run.

(Phew.)

Welcome to the view outside my window:

(And a flag...

Pretty, right?)

It's been raining all weekend. I won't complain, but the humidity isn't what I ordered when I said 'rain please!' a few weeks ago.

I'm feeling (moderately) better today, in that I can think straight AND sit up without feeling dizzy. I think that sleeping for 18 hours Friday night had been a good decision (as much as I could decide about that!) and it seems to have sped up my recovery from whatever I have. Today my only symptom is a wicked cough and some residual asthma stuff.

Thursday night, we had a make up lecture for my Politics class from 7-8. On the way out, I took this picture.

After that, Brandlyn and I went to La Zona Rosa and saw Bo Burhnam, who is hilarious youtube discovered comedian. I think one of the craziest things about this guy is that he's a really successful and he's just turned 19.

Well, that's it for this blog!

(Okay, so I just watched the True Blood finale... and may I just say crap? I want to know who pulled that marriage proposal out of their arse and why they put it in the script... Overall I'm pleased with the season, though. Can't wait for season three, though!)

Sick. (Cough. Really.)

I'm sick. I don't know what kind of sick, but I am definitely and some kind of lightheaded, dayquil-responding, stuffy-nosed, coughing, asthma-inducing, and sleep-for-18-hours-like-it's-nothing kind of sick.

I've been playing runescape all afternoon. It's also raining really hard outside, so I'm playing my rainy day music and putting off the time when I'll have to go over to Mom and Mike's house to take care of the dogs. I'll bring my computer.

I have my first quiz of the semester on Monday, and my politics teacher put this up on the screen... I thought it was funny enough to share with the blog!

A Vlog for my Blog?!

I thought I'd try another vlog, specifically to tell you guys how ridiculous my politics textbook is. ;) Hope you enjoy! Let me know how you guys like the vlogs!

Football!!

Kris and I went to the first game of the season Saturday night! We were sitting in the student section and of course I brought my fancy camera... The game was awesome - we pounded ULM. I think the final score was 59-20 (but correct me if I'm wrong!)

First, I spied on the APO people while they were hanging out and waiting to run the flag.

And here's the flag that I will someday run onto the field! (They just spun it in circles today, but they apparently have some neat tricks!)

We scored a touchdown within the first three minutes of the game.

And the Big Flags (as Nathan calls them) ran out in celebration through the canon smoke.

At halftime, Kris and I tried to find Nathan on the field. We're pretty sure this is him!

The band made boots (upside down to us)

And here's a pretty picture of the tower! (It was orange after we won!)

Here's to a great season ahead of us! OU lost it's game that night... which is excellent news for us!

Installed

Last night, I was installed as a pledge for Alpha Phi Omega, which (if you don't know) is a co-ed fraternity dedicated to service for your community. It was a really neat little ceremony.

I got my pin,

I got my pledge sponsor (no photo, but her name is Jill),

and I got taken to dinner by the group... and they paid! We had Chinese food, and somehow the 13 of us there (we split into small groups, they call them families, and other families went to different restaurants) managed to polish off ALL of the food.

After dinner, we went to play laser tag and I got 3rd place! It was a fun game (all of the crouching and running around made my legs sore, though!). My code name was "Smiles" and at one point during the game I heard someone yell "Who the heck is Smiles?!" Clearly I tagged them a lot. :D

Tonight marks the beginning of our football season... I'm bringing my fancy camera, so hopefully I'll get some good pictures!

Hook 'em horns!

Rainy Days (and how I wish they were here)

I want it to rain today - it just seems like a really good day for rain. So with that in mind, I'm going to provide you guys with a soundtrack to my rainy day.

1. "Falling In Love at a Coffee Shop" by Landon Pigg
2. "Days Go By" by Duncan Sheik
3. "Bella's Lullaby" by Carter Burwell (from the Twilight movie soundtrack)
4. "Now Comes the Night" by Rob Thomas
5. "Cellar Door" by Holly Brook
6. "The Shadowlands" by Ryan Adams
7. "Reasons for Living" by Duncan Sheik
8. "Let Go" by Frou Frou
9. "Tomorrow" by Avril Lavigne
10. "Stay (Acoustic version)" by Little Big Town
11. "In Another Life" by The Veronicas
12. "Someday" by John Legend
13. "Farewell" by Nicholas Hooper (from the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince soundtrack)

The list is a work in progress... but I like the way it is. Do you guys have a CD that you pull out and listen to when it rains? What is your soundtrack to your perfect rainy day?
